New Wave Mental Maths - 2nd Class - New Edition (2025)

New Wave Mental Maths - 2nd Class - New Edition (2025)

Ireland’s favourite maths series has been revised for the new Primary Mathematics Curriculum!

New Wave Mental Maths is a series of seven workbooks written to provide a comprehensive and structured daily approach to learning and practising mental maths for classes from Senior Infants to 6th Class.

With a fresh look and added features, the series has been updated to cover all mental maths-related strands and strand units of the new Primary Mathematics Curriculum.

New Wave Mental Maths is designed to:

  • encourage and develop mental calculation concepts and skills;
  • constantly revise the different strands and strand units;
  • develop and reinforce problem-solving strategies;
  • develop and maintain speed of recall; and
  • practise, consolidate, and reinforce mathematical vocabulary and language.

About the 2nd Class book

The 2nd Class book continues the two-column format introduced in the 1st Class book. Using this familiar layout eases pupils into the new mathematical concepts introduced in this book, which include place value of three-digit numbers, rounding, and more complex addition and subtraction strategies. Telling time questions develop in difficulty, introducing quarter-past and quarter-to times.

Features of the Series

  • Easy-to-use weekly structure
  • Modern design with more space and larger font
  • ‘Monday Focus’ (1st to 4th Class) and ‘Weekly Focus’ (1st to 6th Class) sections that highlight a core concept or strategy practised throughout the week’s learning
  • ‘Problem-solving’ column that encourages critical thinking and inquiry skills
  • ‘Friday Review’ section to assess the week’s learning
  • ‘Maths Talk’ column to facilitate class discussions
  • ‘Vocabulary’ column to test mathematical terminology understanding
  • ‘Word Cloud’ to support independent learning of vocabulary
  • ‘Maths Facts’ to aid and consolidate learnt concepts
  • ‘Online Portal’ for review of daily activities and answers on a classroom whiteboard
